Top 10 Banks of U.S.

Here are the top ten banks in America, ranked by total assets. There are also a couple of interesting facts about each bank.
  1. Bank of America. Has over 205,000 employees. Has committed $20 billion over the next 10 years to promote an environmentally-friendly business.
  2. JPMorgan Chase & Co. Tony Blair, ex Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, was once a employee. Won the Business Week ‘Top 10 Best Places to Launch a Career’ award this year (2008).
  3. Citigroup. Largest shareholder is a Saudi Arabian Prince named Al-Waleed bin Talal. Have over 350,000 employees.
  4. Wachovia. May merge with Wells Fargo (currently some legal battles going on with Citigroup). Lost $8.9 billion in the second quarter of 2008.
  5. Wells Fargo. Only bank with a ‘AAA’ rating from S&P (Standard & Poor’s). Has over 23 million customers. Has an excellent environmental record.
  6. US Bancorp. Was founded in Portland, Oregon in 1890. Headquarters are in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
  7. Suntrust Banks. Have over 1700 branches in the Southern states. Had assets of $171.5 billion in June, 2008. Founded in 1811. (As a side note, I must say that this is a terrible name for a bank. Sounds like ‘some trust banks’)
  8. HSBC Bank USA. Have 400 branches throughout New York. Official headquarters are in Wilmington, Delaware. Is a subsidiary of HSBC Holdings.
  9. KeyBank. There are 1,479 Keybank ATM machines. Has over 18,000 employees. Listed as KEY on the New York Stock Exchange.
  10. State Street Bank. Was founded back in 1792. Ronald Logue is the CEO and Chairman. Have centers worldwide, including Sydney, London, Frankfurt, Munich and Edinburgh.
